FOLD
Why Does FOLD Only Show the Windows Wallpaper?
A wallpaper-only FOLD display may have no app window on it yet. Check Extend, monitor arrangement, and symptoms that need connection troubleshooting.
FOLD creates an additional Windows monitor. If Android shows wallpaper without an application, the window you want may still be on the main screen. Check Extend, then move one window onto the FOLD display. Wallpaper alone does not automatically mean the connection failed.
How is this different from screen mirroring?
Mirroring copies the main screen. An extended desktop gives each display its own workspace. Opening an app on the laptop does not necessarily place it on Android.
FOLD uses an extended desktop. Review the FOLD product explanation if you were expecting an identical copy of the main screen.
How do you move an app onto FOLD?
- Confirm Windows has an active START session and Android has connected with CONNECT.
- Open Settings > System > Display on Windows and check that the additional monitor is detected.
- Select Extend to use the extra workspace.
- Check the monitor arrangement so you know which edge sits beside your main screen.
- Open a simple window, such as a document, and drag it across that edge onto the additional display.
- Check that the window appears on Android and updates as you use it.
Begin with an ordinary document before trying apps with special graphics or screen-capture restrictions. Keep private documents off the screen when taking screenshots for support.
What if the symptom is different?
| Symptom | Relevant check |
|---|---|
| Wallpaper is visible and responsive | Window position and display arrangement |
| Black or frozen picture | Stop both sides, reconnect once, confirm Extend, then try the 30 FPS limit |
| No virtual display detected | Follow the official driver troubleshooting; restart Windows after installation when needed |
| Android stays at Connecting | Active Windows host, matching connection mode, and correct USB device or destination IP |
These distinctions help avoid reinstalling a driver when the problem is simply where a window is placed. For a first connection, use the complete FOLD installation and setup guide.
What should you report if it still fails?
Record the host/client versions, Windows build, Android model, USB or Wi-Fi mode, and display-check results. Explain whether wallpaper is visible, the picture freezes, or Android has not entered the session. That is more useful than reporting only that the screen does not work.
